The Sefton Park School Reports on Jitzy’s Visit

Nicaraguan coffee farmer visit for Fairtrade Fortnight.

Jitzy Marianela Ruiz, a coffee farmer from Nicaragua, visited the Junior School as part of Fairtrade Fortnight.  The children learnt all about her life as a coffee farmer working on a women’s cooperative which supplies coffee beans to a Fairtrade producer.  They also learnt about what everyday life is like for Jitzy and her family, as well as the benefits that being part of the Fairtrade Market brings.  The Year 6 were then given the chance to participate in a Question and Answer session with Jitzy and she played a game with them which showed just how unfair the market can be for producers.

They then designed a logo for Jitzy’s “coffee of the goddesses” – below are the winners’ designs!

CONGRATULATIONS TO THE WINNERS!
