Copa Sandino Update

BLINC’s 25th annual Copa Sandino football tournament will take place on Sunday, 22nd May at the Ashton Park Secondary School. The Copa Sandino is BLINC’s biggest fundraising event, and all proceeds will go to development projects in Puerto Morazán. The event is a five-a-side football tournament and is open to any football team but specially welcomes teams from the Latino communities. The women’s tournament, La Copa Lucrecia Lindo, will also be taking place.

Currently there are twenty teams participating in the Copa Sandino, including a few children’s teams, and teams coming all the way from London and Bridgewater! Four women’s teams have already signed up for the Copa Lucrecia Lindo. Games are expected to start around 12:30pm. There will also be Latino food, beer, and a great DJ!

Nicaraguan charge d’affairs Guisell Morales from the Nicaraguan Embassy in London has kindly agreed to attend the tournament and present the trophies and t-shirts to the winners. She has also agreed to provide a bottle of Nicaraguan Rum for the quiz prize!

BLINC is looking for volunteers to work at the refreshment stand, selling food and drink during the tournament. If you’d be interested in volunteering, please contact Jessica Randall: jessica.randall@uwe.ac.uk. We look forward to seeing you there!
